I would like to thank all of our clients for their ongoing support. Over the past five years, we have overhauled our business model to improve our services, benefit our clients and assist in our expansion beyond translation and auditing into advising and consulting on international business activities and communications and providing support for our clients in their global business development. Congratulations to Vietnam’s Northern Airport’s Corporation on the smooth and successful opening of Terminal 2 at Noi Bai International Airport at the end of December 2014. Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), with whom we at Murray Associates have enjoyed a close business relationship for close on 20 years, played a major part in providing the assistance to ensure a trouble-free startup and commissions. Murray Associates was also proud to have played apart in providing the translation services.

Moving into 2015, we are also assisting NAA in its role in the planning, construction and commissioning of the New Ulaanbataar International Airport project which is now getting underway.

April this year will see the opening of Terminal 3 at Narita International Airport. Designed exclusively for the use of low cost carriers, the new terminal incorporates a number cost-efficient innovative features. Murray Associates is also involved with this project by providing signage and new web pages for the terminal on the airport website as well as foreign language information for the airlines, customers, contractors and mass media.

Murray Associates is also assisting at Kansai International Airport as that airport moves forward with the introduction of new common user interface equipment in the terminals.

Meanwhile, Narita, Haneda and Kansai airports are pushing forward with retail expansion, which includes the establishment of off-airport duty-free shops in collaboration with the major department stores and duty-free operators. This sector of the industry has also generated a number of interesting projects for Murray Associates.

The first quarter of fiscal 2013 began slowly for Murray Associates due mainly to the completion of the Borg El Arab support project in Egypt and a lull in activity in ongoing airport development projects in Asia. However, translation in non-aviation sectors increased somewhat during the quarter and carried us through until the resumption of major airport project activities in the second quarter.  The start up and commissioning assistance project for Terminal 2 at Noi Bai International Airport, Vietnam got into full swing in the last three quarters of the fiscal year. Together with capacity and facility expansion projects at Narita, Haneda and Kansai airports along with a surge in airport retailing and signage reviews, fiscal 2013 became our best year in the history of the company.

We expect strong conditions to continue in fiscal 2014 with ongoing capacity and facility expansion at Japan’s three major international airports and more overseas development aid (ODA) airport development and management assistance projects in Asia and elsewhere. This will be supported by the build up towards the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 as the nation prepares it infrastructure. We look forward to another busy fiscal year.

Happy New Year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal support in 2012. I look forward to supporting your business success and prosperity again in 2013.

2013 marks a new direction for Murray Associates. Several years ago, we began searching for software to assist us with terminology uniformity and help us to respond rapidly to urgent translation requests. After examining all of the leading programs at the time, we settled on a largely unknown solution, Déjà Vu. We considered Déjà Vu to have the most potential for further development and became one of the first in Japan to use the program and contribute to its development.

Following the destructive earthquake that hit Japan in March 2011, we recognized once more the need to ensure that we are able to ensure continuity in our services to our clients in the event of a disaster. We began looking at a business continuity plan with security and flexibility. Once again, we turned to the makers of Déjà Vu and as on 1 January this year, we installed their product, TEAMServer, on a secure, state-of-the-art server. TEAMServer places all of our translation software and databases on a very powerful cloud server and enables us to continue translating even in the face of total disaster.  If, for example, all of our buildings and equipment were totally destroyed, we would be able resume translating within a few short hours and use our software and database assets.

We also adopted a simple, secure file transfer system last year for files that are too large for standard email settings. If you would like to make use of this, please contact us for further details.

Of course, security is of paramount importance in the translation business. We are very aware of the sensitivity of the information we handle, and we revise and audit our security precautions regularly. Security is also the primary consideration when we introduce such improvements to our processes. Every step is protected by SSL (secure sockets layer) security and one of the most advanced firewall and internet security programs available on the market today.

As the world changes, we at Murray Associates need to continue evolving to ensure that we provide you with the very best service possible. As we begin a new year, we promise to continue developing new ways to contribute to your company’s success.

Narita Airport has released another new smartphone to help airport users find their way around the passenger terminals. ‘NRT_Airport Navi’, allows passenger to register their flight details to obtain a reminder on their smartphones when they need to go to the gate lounge. It also provides directions to gate lounges, facilities and shopping areas.  The application introduces augmented reality for the first time on an experimental basis. This will be developed further in future revisions of the application.
